Sustainability consulting

Sustainability is often interchangeable with corporate responsibility, with businesses increasingly using this term to capture their environmental and social performance. The scope is therefore similar, and both seek to manage environmental, social and economic impacts. The emphasis on sustainability is more around building for a sustainable future, rather than protecting brand and reputation in the present day.

We call it futurology; preparing your business for future challenges by asking whether your current practices are fit for purpose. Whether that is protecting against potential natural resource depletion, or preparing for a changing workforce demographic.

Much of our work in the public sector comes under the umbrella of sustainability consulting, developing guidance and support on issues such as carbon, waste, water and biodiversity. As with CR consulting we can find a focus for both public and private organisations by understanding the critical issues being faced today and in the future. We can develop a strategy to help you manage these issues, and make recommendations on how to cut your carbon emissions, reduce your reliance on natural resources and prepare your business for a range of future scenarios.

The term sustainability has often created the wrong impression, a bit too green with connotations of tree hugging, which is probably why many businesses have adopted the term CR and CSR. However, it’s now apparent that proactive businesses consider all sustainability issues to prepare for a range of future scenarios, all potentially threatening to the vitality of your business.

It might just be semantics, but we think it’s important to consider both the present and future; instigating challenge and meeting the challenge is what really matters.
